The tragedies of June 15, 2008 have marked all of our lives in so many ways. Barikad Crew is not only a group of musicians, but they stand strong as pioneers in the Hip-Hop/Rap Kreyol movement, which since its
creation has helped to solidify a whole nation through music. Our youth is the most affected by the deaths of these influential youngsters,
Deja Voo, Katafal, Dade Djo, as well as Natalie.
With this unfortunate loss Bastien Entertainment, Djumbala Nightclub and the Promoters in the Haitian Community are calling for everyone to unite and act to assist these grieving families who have lost more than just children but their dreams, hopes and most importantly their faith.
Let's help restore their trust in humanity at a Memorial Fundraising Tribute on Sunday, June 29, 2008 at Djumbala – 1370 Ralph Avenue Bet. Clarendon & Foster from 3pm – 9pm. Several musicians, producers and elected officials have agreed to pay their respects by being present including Senator Kevin Parker, Councilman Dr. Eugene Mathews, Isnard Douby of System Band and members of the groups CaRiMi, Zin and the artist King Kino, plus many others.
In unison we can impact the lives of these families in a positive manner by not only attending this fundraiser, but also participating in its purpose. Every single dollar raised will be donated to the families of these fallen soldiers.
After a touching memorial service in Haiti, let us continue to pay homage to these artists on Sunday, June 29, 2008. Commemorating their lives the Untouchable Dj's, Dj Luko, Master D, Hi-Profyle Dj's and DJ Sketch from the Dream Team will play a tribute to Barikad Crew throughout the day's event.
